ok not sure what im doing but im having a go. promised a few girls in QCA i would give them some measurements for my black n white quilt.heres the pic. im not doing a full tutorial as i have never done anything like this before. If im teaching you face to face id have no problem but trying to write it down so it is understood correctly is quite another thing. this quilt is made up of 36 blocks now iwill give u the pic of the fabrics i chose for this sample
u will need 18 blocks of each combination im sure you all know how to put the block tog
black with white block [block 1
1 by 3 ins centre square [black with white ]
2 by 3 ins square [white with black]
2by 3 ins by 8 ins strips [white wth black]
2 by 3 ins by 8 ins strips [ black with white]
2 by 3 ins by 13 ins strips[ black with white]
white with black [ block 2 ]
1 by 3 ins centre square [white with black]
2 by 3 in ssquares [ black with white]
2 by 3 ins by 8 ins strips [black with white]
2 by 3 ins by 8 ins strips [white with black]
2 by 3ins by 13 ins strips [white with black ]
now i would like to put pics of 2 finished blocks and camera is giving me the -- its sorry about also tha actual pic of the quilt is not the finished article as i seem to have lost that one into cyberspace it will give you a good idea of how to put blocks together i only put a binding i didnt think it needed borders
back to next stage of this quilt what i did was to cut each block on the diagonal then use one of each of blocks 1 and 2 and sewed one of each together matching all joins i did try to do them as hst with no sucess just too many joins
this is a trial run as a first time blogger so please be patient with me if u need any questions answered regarding this please feel free to ask me on the qcQCA f/b page CHEERS TO ALL WHO MAY SEE THIS

Welcome to blogging! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
ReplyDeletethanku so much im very new not really sure what i am doing hope u could make sense of it all
Deletelove that quilt Shirl, i just happened to have acquired a whole buch of black and white fabrics... Are the finished blocks 12 inches? I guess it doesn't much matter so long as they are all the same. Was there any rhyme or reason to fabric placement, other than the light /dark? IE did you use each fabric once in each position?
ReplyDeletehello sheila thanks for yr question this quilt was an experiment made it up as i went i used about 9 or 10 different fabric if u look at the pic u will see that ive used the centre ones to form the shape to start, then just placed them where they looked best the blocks are about blocks are 13 ins and will be 12.5 aftercutting and sew the hst, so a finished 12 ins block so quilt should be 60 ins sq if no borders if you want it bigger you could make all yrr pieces 4 ins widths or bigger that would kee pthe layout the same hope you enjoy making this i no longer have the original quilt so im working on a new one so i can give the [hopefully] right directions
ReplyDeletethanks Shirley, i might just have a go in the New Year
DeleteThis looks like it would be a great quilt to make, it draws the eye in somehow. It is quite hard (and takes a bit of time too) to write a good tutorial, once you put some more photos in I think it will be a bit clearer, some people are visual learners and some are happy to read instructions.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to blogging, I'm sure you will enjoy it, I find that it does get better with practise :)

P.S. If you can find out how to get into your dashboard, it would be handy if you could remove the word verification off your comments as some people won't leave comments if they have to do the whole word verification thing, as they're really hard to read sometimes.
Love the quilt Shirley - it's gorgeous!
